Decided to go for a run on the beach today - Figured a run/walk for an hour. Not cold, nor particularly windy (for here) though it was blowing NW, so there was a crosswind out, and back was more of a headwind.
Unfortunately, I didn't time the tides correctly (urban-ness shining through)and the sand was softer than expected, so it was hard going. Ran for 30 minutes in the sand probably about 12 min mile, then ran back on the boadwalk, a little faster, overall speed 11:43 for 6.01 miles in 1:10:29.
My legs were heavy, my hip aches, and my sciatic nerve in my right big toe, and it's insertion in my glute, hurt; hamstring, calf are fine, go figure. My breathing seems to be slightly better though hard to tell as sand is tough going. Anyway, I think I will do the 10 miler in Cape May at the end of the Month and should be fine for that. Goal is about 10:30 min mile - I WILL HAVE MORE RED BLOOD BY THEN :)

Back from Hyannis
Did the half marathon - Ran slowly, and slower as the race went on - 10.59 min mile, OK considering - Glad I didn't do the whole thing as the second half it poured with rain.
Looking forward to next month when I hope my blood wiil be relatively iron fused.
I taught a class Monday, mini and full class Tuesday, class Wednesday, and I have a class today. I will take a day off tomorrow - Next week I am starting a weight program, want to gain some muscle!
Will post workouts here instead of on the calendar.
One thing of note was yesterday I got things done - Vet, car etc. Maybe I'm picking up!

Runners and anemia
Not being a very fast runner in the first place, and thinking I had clogged sinuses, or just plain hated running in the cold, I have discovered I have anemia!
I have been on a gradual downward slope for at least six months, and since "Marathon runners who are vegetarian" is a category for iron deficiency, it seems I am there. I do eat fish but stopped eating meat over a year ago.
So now I am slurping up iron (ferrous sulfate) prescribed by the Doctor - You really do need the blood test, as iron is a pesky little mineral, too little, and you gasp, dizzily into a weakened state, too much, and your organs do weird things, like give you Cirrhosis of the Liver...
So I did trudge off to the Doctor for 2 separate blood tests - Only good thing was I didn't have to fast.
So now, even though I am running the Hyannis Marathon on February 22, I am running hardly at all. I have a three week bizarre plan however: I am running long and slow (probably four hours) on Sunday, then I am not running until the marathon - I will run/walk and go extremely slow - Fortunately, this time I have the perfect built in excuse, and Hyannis gives you six hours to finish (I may just take that long!)
So if you are dragging along, and you are running slower and slower, think about getting that blood test.

Easy tips for walking.
They (whoever they are) have now decided that just 12 minutes of aerobic exercise is beneficial - If you HATE exercise ~ force yourself out of the house (that's the hard part) and walk six minutes out - You have to come home! You can build that up to 45 minutes (don't think about that yet.)
Ipod good, though I actually prefer the radio when I'm alone, just because I never know what's coming next.
The best is find a friend who will do it with you, they can be extremely annoying when you really don't want to go and they knock on your door!
